Acolate Kid Nasal Drops is meant to be used externally by nasal route only. Put it into each nostril strictly as prescribed by your child’s doctor. Try not to touch the tip of the medicine container while putting it in your child’s nose. If this happens, rinse the tip with hot water and dry with a clean tissue before recapping the medicine container. Close one nostril while applying the medicine into the other, and then ask your child to sniff hard to make sure it reaches deep into the nose. Once done, repeat for the other nostril.

Acolate Kid Nasal Drops provides quick relief, approximately within 2 minutes that lasts for several hours (up to 10 hours). It is recommended to make the last application shortly before your child retires to bed. It renders only temporary relief, so do not use it more often or for longer than recommended. Using it for a longer duration may cause side effects. On the other hand, stopping the medicine abruptly can make the congestion come back with severity and can worsen your child’s condition.

This medicine may have some minor and temporary side effects such as irritation in the nose,  nasal dryness, feeling sick (nausea), headache, or application site burning. These episodes should start receding after a few doses. However, if these side effects persist or become bothersome for your child, report to the doctor without any delay. Follow all the instructions as suggested by your child’s doctor and as mentioned over the medicine label.

Acolate Kid Nasal Drops is a nasal decongestant. It helps in opening up the nasal passages by reducing excessive nasal secretions and also reducing the swelling in the blood vessels in the inner surface of the nose. This provides temporary relief from congestion or stuffiness in the nose.

If you miss a dose of Acolate Kid Nasal Drops, use it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Do check the medicine’s ‘expiry’ date before using it.

Do not give more than the recommended dose as it can lead to side effects.

Do not use it more than 3 times a day.

Prolonged use and abrupt stoppage of Acolate Kid Nasal Drops can lead to complications. Follow the doctor’s prescription carefully.

One container of Acolate Kid Nasal Drops should only be used only by one person. This is to avoid spreading infection from one person to another. Do not share the same medicine with others.

Encourage your child to inhale the steam as it may help relieve symptoms.

Q. Can I give Acolate Kid Nasal Drops to my child continuously for more than 2 weeks if he has on and off nasal congestion?

Do not give Acolate Kid Nasal Drops to your child for more than 10 consecutive days as it may lead to complications such as “atrophic rhinitis”. Also, make sure not to stop the medicine suddenly as doing so can cause ‘‘rebound congestion’’ in your child. Therefore, it is advised to follow the prescribed dosing schedule.

Q. What if I give too much of Acolate Kid Nasal Drops to my child by mistake?

An overdose of Acolate Kid Nasal Drops can cause severe dizziness, perspiration, severely lowered body temperature, headache, bradycardia (low heart rate), hypertension, respiratory depression, coma, and convulsions. It may even cause high blood pressure followed by a fall in blood pressure. Moreover, children are more sensitive to toxicity than adults, so it is advised that you reach out to your child’s doctor immediately if this happens.

Q. How to use Acolate Kid Nasal Drops in my child?

Before using Acolate Kid Nasal Drops, ask your child to clear the nose by blowing gently. Ask your child to lay down and lookup. Tilt your child’s head back as far as comfortable, or if lying on a bed, keep the head over the side. Open the cap of the medicine container and without touching the nozzle to the nose, apply the medicine into each nostril. Ask your child to keep the head tilted back for a short time as that will allow the drops to spread throughout the nose. Replace the cap right after use. If the drop completely misses the nose, administer the drop again. If any part of the drop gets into the nose, do not administer the drop again. Repeat for the other nostril. Clean and dry the nozzle before replacing the cap right after use. To avoid the possible spread of infection, the bottle should only be used by one person.

Call your child’s doctor if your child is bothered by signs such as insomnia, dizziness, tremor, irregular heartbeat, or elevated blood pressure after the use of Acolate Kid Nasal Drops.

Q. Can other medicines be given at the same time as Acolate Kid Nasal Drops?

Acolate Kid Nasal Drops can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Acolate Kid Nasal Drops. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.

Q. In what position should I make my child sleep when he is having a stuffy nose?

To sleep with a stuffy nose, make your child lie on his back with a pillow to help the mucus drain out. Abstain your child from sleeping on the side position since it may increase the congestion in one or both nostrils.

Children constantly catch common colds and also suffer from hay fever or allergic rhinitis. A typical symptom of all these is nasal congestion. Acolate Kid Nasal Drops helps relieve nasal congestion by contracting and narrowing down the blood vessels in the linings of the nasal passages. This decreases blood flow into the linings of the nose and sinuses, which reduces swelling and the feeling of congestion. It should be used as prescribed and should not be used for more than seven days in a row (preferably less). Talk to your child’s doctor if the symptoms do not improve.

Acolate Kid Nasal Drops does not pose serious side effects and is well-tolerated by children. In case the side effects do occur, they’re likely to subside once the body adapts to the medicine.
