During radiotherapy, chemotherapy, abdominal infection, or any major surgeries, the dead cells in the body start releasing a chemical called serotonin directly into the blood. Later, this stimulates special centers in the body that are responsible for inducing vomiting in your child. Giving Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup just before the procedure helps block the effect of this chemical on vomiting centers of the brain and prevents vomiting.

Do not panic. Give the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, you must skip the missed dose if it’s almost time for the next dose. Do not give a double dose and follow the prescribed dosing schedule.

Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup effectively controls nausea and bouts of vomiting reflex in children undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy sessions.

It is fast-acting and starts working within 30 minutes.

Q. What is Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup used for?

Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup is generally given before any major surgery or before chemotherapy and radiotherapy sessions. In case your child is about to undergo any of the above procedures, the doctor may ask you to give Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup to your child to prevent vomiting post-procedure. Apart from this, Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup is also found useful in treating vomiting caused due to diseases of the stomach. In such a case, your child’s doctor may prescribe giving Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup to your child for a few days. Stick to the dose for best results.

Q. What if my child takes too much Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup?

Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup is unlikely to cause harm if you give an extra dose by mistake. However, you must still speak to your child’s doctor immediately. Sometimes, excessive intake of Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup can cause some serious side effects like excess sleepiness, agitation, rapid heartbeat, hypertension, flushing, dilated pupils, sweating, involuntary muscle jerk, uncontrolled eye movements, overactive reflexes, and seizures. These symptoms are collectively known as serotonin syndrome. If any of these appear, consult the doctor without any delay.

Q. How should Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup be stored?

Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup should be stored at room temperature, in a dry place, away from direct heat and light. Also, keep all the medicines out of the reach and sight of children to avoid any accidental intake.

Q. Can other medicines be given at the same time as Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup?

Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.

Q. In what conditions do I need to call my child’s doctor right away?

Call your child’s doctor immediately if your child develops symptoms of serotonin syndrome like irregular heartbeat, green-colored vomiting, inability to pass wind, pale skin and eyes, dark-colored urine, restlessness, and insomnia.

Q. My child is having a migraine and is on medication. Can I give Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup along with it?

Avoid combining Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup with such medicines because concomitant use of Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup with medicines meant to treat depression or migraine results in serotonin syndrome. Consult your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.

In Treatment of Nausea

Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup blocks the action of chemicals in the body that can make you feel or be sick. It is often used to prevent nausea and vomiting that may be caused by cancer chemotherapy and radiation treatment (in adults and children aged 4 years and older). It is usually taken both before and after chemotherapy or radiation. This medicine helps you recover more comfortably from these treatments. It is also effective at preventing nausea and vomiting after an operation (in adults only). The dose will depend on what you are being treated for but always take this medicine as it is prescribed.

Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup does not pose serious side effects and is well-tolerated by children. In case the side effects do occur, they’re likely to subside once the body adapts to the medicine. Consult your child’s doctor if these side effects persist or bother your child. The most common side effects include-

Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup is recommended.

Liver:CAUTION

Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Amedil 2mg/5ml Syrup may be needed. Please consult your doctor.In severe liver disease, do not exceed the prescribed dose and consult your child’s doctor.
