Give this medicine to your child by mouth with or without food. If your child develops an upset stomach, prefer giving it with food. You may require to give this medicine to your child for a few days to weeks, depending upon the severity of the infection. For maximum benefit, do not stop the medication abruptly by yourself even if your child starts to feel better and continue the medicine until the full prescribed course. Do not give more than the prescribed dose for fast relief as it may cause unwanted effects and worsen your child’s condition.

Some of the common side effects of this medicine include excessive saliva production, fatigue, headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, irregular heartbeat, rash, tremors, and abnormal sensations. Usually, these episodes subside once your child’s body adapts to the medicine. However, if these effects persist or become bothersome for your child, report to your child’s doctor on a priority basis.

Do not give this medicine to your child for the long term or the treatment of any chronic respiratory illness without consulting your child’s doctor. Check the medicine label properly and never combine this medicine with other cold and flu medicines as that may lead to side effects.

Narrate your child’s complete medical history, including any previous episode of respiratory illness, allergy, heart problems, blood disorders, birth defects, airway obstruction, lung anomaly, sinus issues, liver impairment, and kidney malfunction. This information is critical for dose alterations and for planning your child’s overall treatment.

Ascoxol-P Drops is a combination of four medicines: Guaifenesin, Ambroxol, Terbutaline, and Sorbitol. Guaifenesin is an expectorant which decreases the stickiness of mucus (phlegm) and helps in its removal from the airways. Ambroxol is a mucolytic that thins and loosens mucus (phlegm), making it easier to cough out. Terbutaline is a bronchodilator that relaxes and widens the muscles in the airways. Sorbitol is an artificial sweetener.

Do not panic. Unless your doctor has advised a specific regime for your child, you can give the missed dose as soon as you remember it. Skip the missed dose if it’s almost time for the next dose. Do not give a double dose and follow the prescribed dosing schedule.

Do not give Ascoxol-P Drops if your child has a dry cough.

Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids. This makes the mucus thin and easy to cough out.

Q. My child is having a dry cough with no mucus. Can I give Ascoxol-P Drops to him?

No, Ascoxol-P Drops is advised for the treatment of wet cough. Whereas, for a dry cough, cough suppressants are a better option. So, it will be wise if you ask your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.

Q. What if my child takes too much Ascoxol-P Drops?

An overdose or a prolonged intake of Ascoxol-P Drops may cause serious side effects like seizures, rapid heart rate, and excess salivation. Make sure to give this medicine to your child strictly as per the prescribed dose, time, and way. You must also ensure not to stop the medicine abruptly even if your child starts to feel better. Sudden withdrawal of this medicine may worsen your child’s condition.

In Treatment of Wet Cough

Ascoxol-P Drops helps gently soothe and relieve your child’s cough. It increases the water content of the mucus, making it thin enough to be coughed out easily. It also relaxes the airways. This makes breathing easy and reduces the frequency of coughing. Along with medications, drinking lukewarm water and gargling with warm salt water may also help ease your child’s symptoms.

Ascoxol-P Drops does not pose serious side effects and is well-tolerated by children. In case the side effects do occur, they’re likely to subside once the body adapts to the medicine.
