Besivance Ophthalmic Suspension is an antibiotic, used in the treatment of bacterial infections of the eye. It relieves the symptoms of the infection by stopping the further growth of the causative microorganisms.

Besivance Ophthalmic Suspension is for external use only. Take it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Hold the dropper close to the eye without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid. Wipe off extra liquid. Avoid skipping any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better.

It may cause burning sensation and eye discomfort immediately following application. However, these side effects are temporary and usually subside on their own. Inform your doctor if they persist for a longer duration. It may cause short term blurring of vision when first used. Use caution before driving or using machines. Do not wear contact lenses while using it.

Q: What if you forget to take Besivance Ophthalmic Suspension?
A: If you miss a dose of Besivance Ophthalmic Suspension, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

You have been prescribed Besivance Ophthalmic Suspension for the treatment of bacterial infections of the eye.

Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better.

Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for about 1 minute, immediately after instilling the medication.

Do not touch the tip to any surface, or to your eye, to avoid contamination.

Wait for at least 5-10 minutes before delivering the next medication in the same eye to avoid dilution.

It may cause short term blurring of vision when first used. Use caution before driving or using machines.

Do not wear contact lenses until your infection clears up.

Make sure to use within 4 weeks of opening the medication.

Your doctor has prescribed Besivance Ophthalmic Suspension to cure your infection and improve symptoms.

Discontinue Besivance Ophthalmic Suspension and inform your doctor immediately if you get a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or have difficulty in breathing.

Diarrhea may occur as a side effect but should stop when your course is complete. Inform your doctor if it doesn’t stop or if you find blood in your stools.

Notify your doctor if you feel pain in your tendons, numbness, or tingling sensations.

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to conceive or breastfeeding.

Ideally, you should use the drops regularly, 3 times a day for 7 days or as prescribed by your doctor.

Q. How long does Besivance Ophthalmic Suspension take to work?

Besivance Ophthalmic Suspension starts working as early as 3 days. The itching and discharge (if any) are the first ones to get better. Pain and soreness may take a little longer to resolve, as long as 7 days. But, if it takes longer, or if your symptoms do not subside or get worse, please consult your doctor immediately.

Q. Is Besivance Ophthalmic Suspension safe to use for a long time?

Besivance Ophthalmic Suspension should not be used for more than 7 days unless your doctor tells you to. Due to prolonged use, the bacterial infection may become resistant to Besivance Ophthalmic Suspension which means it will no longer work properly. Please talk to your doctor if you do not see any improvement in your symptoms. He/she may change the dose or probably prescribe a different medicine.

Q. How is Besivance Ophthalmic Suspension used?

Wash your hands thoroughly prior to using Besivance Ophthalmic Suspension. Invert closed bottle (upside down) and shake once before each use. Remove cap with bottle still in the inverted position. Tilt head back, and with bottle inverted, gently squeeze bottle to instill one drop into the affected eye(s). Close your eyes for at least 2-3 minutes so that the medicine does not drain out of the eye(s).

Q. Can I use Besivance Ophthalmic Suspension with contact lenses?

No, you should remove your contact lenses before instilling Besivance Ophthalmic Suspension. You can re-insert the lens 15 minutes after using Besivance Ophthalmic Suspension. Contact your doctor if there is any eye irritation that persists.

Q. Can I use any other eye drop along with Besivance Ophthalmic Suspension?

Always consult your doctor before using any other eye drops along with Besivance Ophthalmic Suspension. It is advisable to give a gap of atleast 10-15 minutes between the two medications.
