Tannic acid inhibits the growth of certain bacteria and the formation of dental plaque biofilm, protects the periodontal membrane, prevents the surface demineralization of enamel and promotes the re-mineralization of the enamel. Choline salicylate blocks the release of certain chemicals (prostaglandins) that cause pain and inflammation. Cetrimide works as an antiseptic. Lidocaine interrupts the transfer of pain signals from a wound to the brain.
