Biotrom 2mg Tablet is an oral anticoagulant that helps prevent harmful blood clots in the legs, lungs, brain, and heart. It is used for deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and stroke prevention.

Biotrom 2mg Tablet should be taken as advised by the doctor. You may take it with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time. This medicine should not be stopped abruptly without consulting the doctor. You should take this medicine regularly to get the most benefit, even if you feel fine. It prevents future harm.

The most common side effect of Biotrom 2mg Tablet is bleeding. Let your doctor know immediately if you see a pinpoint rash or blood in your vomit, urine, or stool. If you are going under any surgery or dental treatment, you may need to stop this medicine for some time, but only after consulting with your doctor.

Before taking Biotrom 2mg Tablet, you must inform the doctor if you are suffering from any kidney or liver disease or taking any medicine, including supplements and herbal products. Also, let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding and about all the other medications that you are taking regularly.

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Biotrom 2mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Biotrom 2mg Tablet works by slowing down the body’s ability to form blood clots. It does this by blocking the action of vitamin K, which is essential for making clotting proteins in the liver. By reducing these clotting proteins, Biotrom 2mg Tablet thins the blood, making it less likely for harmful clots to form.

Q: What if you forget to take Biotrom Tablet?
A: If you miss a dose of Biotrom 2mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Avoid making sudden major changes to your diet during treatment with this medicine.

Biotrom 2mg Tablet increases your risk of bleeding. Be careful while shaving, cutting fingernails or toenails, using sharp objects, or engaging in contact sports (e.g., football, wrestling).

Notify your doctor if you see blood in your vomit, urine, or stool (black, tarry stools or bright red blood).

Do not consume alcohol while taking Biotrom 2mg Tablet, as this may increase its side effects.

If you are going to have a surgery or dental treatment, you may be asked to stop taking Biotrom 2mg Tablet temporarily.

Do not discontinue use without consulting your doctor, as this may increase your chances of having another heart attack or stroke.

Your doctor may get regular blood tests done to make sure Biotrom 2mg Tablet is working properly.

Q. How long do I need to take Biotrom 2mg Tablet?

You should continue taking Biotrom 2mg Tablet for as long as recommended by your doctor. Depending upon the condition you are being treated for, you may have to take it for several months or years or maybe for the rest of your life.

Q. What should I avoid while taking Biotrom 2mg Tablet?

You should avoid alcohol while taking Biotrom 2mg Tablet as alcohol may interfere with working of Biotrom 2mg Tablet. In addition to that, avoid cranberry juice or other cranberry products as there may be a risk of enhanced blood thinning. Avoid breastfeeding or getting pregnant as it may harm your child.

Q. Do I need to stop Biotrom 2mg Tablet if I have to undergo a surgery?

Depending on the type of surgery that is to be performed, your doctor will tell you whether to continue or stop Biotrom 2mg Tablet. It will be decided by your doctor after weighing the risks and benefits of discontinuing Biotrom 2mg Tablet.

Q. Is Biotrom 2mg Tablet same as warfarin?

Both Biotrom 2mg Tablet and warfarin are blood thinners, but they have some differences. Warfarin has a more stable blood thinning effect.

Q. How long does it take for Biotrom 2mg Tablet to start working?

It takes a little longer for Biotrom 2mg Tablet to start working. On an average, it may take 2-3 days for Biotrom 2mg Tablet to show its blood-thinning effect. For these 2-3 days, heparin may be used and then discontinued.

Q. What if I forget to take a dose?

If you forget to take a dose of Biotrom 2mg Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is time for your next dose then skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose and continue your normal schedule. Keep a diary or set a reminder, so that you do not forget it often.

Q. What monitoring is required while taking Biotrom 2mg Tablet?

The bleeding times should be carefully monitored from 2nd or 3rd dose of Biotrom 2mg Tablet and till the clotting status is stabilized. Thereafter, the bleeding time can be monitored monthly. This frequency may be more in elderly.

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Biotrom 2mg Tablet.

Pregnancy:UNSAFE

Biotrom 2mg Tablet is highly unsafe to use during pregnancy. Seek your doctor’s advice as studies on pregnant women and animals have shown significant harmful effects to the developing baby.

Breast feeding:SAFE IF PRESCRIBED

Biotrom 2mg Tablet is safe to use during breastfeeding. Human studies suggest that the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in a significant amount and is not harmful to the baby.

Driving:SAFE

Biotrom 2mg Tablet does not usually affect your ability to drive.

Kidney:CAUTION

Biotrom 2mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Biotrom 2mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.Use of Biotrom 2mg Tablet is not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease.

Liver:CAUTION
