Carnipil Tablet

Carnipil Tablet should be taken with food and it should be chewed thoroughly before swallowing. Take it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Do not start or stop taking this medicine without a doctor’s prescription.

Carnipil Tablet is usually a safe medicine, however, it may cause nausea and vomiting. Your doctor may suggest you to monitor your blood glucose levels regularly while you are taking the medicine.

Before starting the medicine, inform your doctor if you have any other medical conditions or are taking any other medications. Patients with severe kidney disease should not take this medicine unless prescribed by the doctor.

Q. Is Carnipil Tablet a steroid?

Carnipil Tablet is not a steroid. It contains Levo-carnitine which is a type of protein (made from the amino acids lysine and methionine). It helps in transporting fats to the cells, where fats get metabolized in order to produce energy. It is used to treat primary and secondary Levo-carnitine deficiency.

Q. When can a carnitine deficiency occur?

Carnitine deficiency may be of two types, primary and secondary. Primary is genetic and may show symptoms by five years of age. Whereas, secondary may occur due to certain disorders like kidney problems (chronic kidney failure) and use of antibiotics that reduces its absorption and increases its excretion.

Q. Does warfarin have any effect on Carnipil Tablet?

In some patients, warfarin when taken along with Carnipil Tablet may increase the time required for the formation of blood clot. Hence, before starting Carnipil Tablet, inform your doctor if you are taking warfarin.

Q. What is the best time to take Carnipil Tablet?

Carnipil Tablet should be taken as directed by your doctor. Generally, it is advised to be taken 3-4 times daily, preferably with meals or after meals.

Q. Can Carnipil Tablet be taken by diabetics?

Yes, Carnipil Tablet can be taken by patients with diabetes. However, it is important to know that it contains sucrose. Some studies have shown that it may improve insulin sensitivity. Along with that, it may also be helpful in relieving nerve pain.

Q. Does Carnipil Tablet cause diarrhea?

Carnipil Tablet may very rarely cause diarrhea. This effect of the medicine can be reduced by decreasing the dose of Carnipil Tablet. But, if you are taking oral solution then take it slowly or dilute it more.

Carnipil Tablet does not usually affect your ability to drive.

Kidney:CAUTION

Carnipil Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Carnipil Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

Liver:SAFE IF PRESCRIBED

Carnipil Tablet is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Carnipil Tablet may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.
