Give Cipron Drop to your child by mouth before food in the dose, time, and way prescribed by your child’s doctor. Give this medicine at a fixed time so that it gradually becomes a part of your child’s daily routine. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking this medicine,  help the child calm down and repeat the dose.

To experience significant hunger stimulation and weight gain, you may require to continue giving this medicine to your child for a few days a month. Therefore, for maximum benefit, it is advised to continue the treatment for the prescribed duration.

The intake of Cipron Drop may cause minor and temporary side effects in your child such as increased heartbeat, dizziness, confusion, headache, constipation, dry mouth, and blurred vision. These symptoms will resolve once your child’s body adapts to the medicine. However, in case of prolonged or bothersome events, it would be best to consult your child’s doctor without any delay.

Inform your child’s doctor if your child is on any medical regime or is allergic to any medicine, product, or food. The doctor must also be aware if your child has or had bowel obstruction, malnutrition, weight-related issues, thyroid problems, or any heart, liver, or kidney problems. Cipron Drop contains two medicines cyproheptadine and tricholine citrate. Together they stimulate the urge to eat (appetite). Cyproheptadine acts by reducing the effect of serotonin (a chemical messenger) in the hypothalamus, a part of the brain which regulates appetite. Tricholine citrate also helps in increasing appetite and spares amino acids for muscle enhancement.

Do not panic. Unless your child’s doctor has advised a specific regime for your child, administer the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next dose. Do not give a double dose to catch up on any missed dose, follow the prescribed dosing schedule strictly.

Dry mouth may occur as a side effect. Frequent mouth rinses, good oral hygiene, increased water intake, and chewing on sugarless candy may help.

Cipron Drop can cause a bitter taste in your child’s mouth. Eating a piece of citrus fruit or sugarless candy may help.

Never increase or decrease the dose by yourself as the dose is prescribed based on your child’s condition, body weight, and age.

Do not give Cipron Drop to increase your child’s body weight under normal conditions. It is prescribed to treat malnutrition due to chronic illness.

Call your child’s doctor right away if your child exhibits allergic rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty soon after the intake of Cipron Drop.

Q. My child is having a long-term illness and is on medication. He is underweight with poor nutritional status and doesn’t feel like eating anything. Can I give Cipron Drop?

Loss of appetite is a common side effect of some medicines. If given, Cipron Drop will help resolve this issue by boosting your child’s appetite and hunger. This will thereby improve your child’s nutritional status. But do make sure to speak to your child’s doctor before giving Cipron Drop to your child as that will help decide the perfect dosing and duration. It usually takes around a few days to weeks to show results. Make sure to inform the doctor if your child is taking any other medicines.

Q. My child is restless and unable to sleep properly at night. Can I give Cipron Drop?

No. It is true that Cipron Drop causes drowsiness as a side effect, but you should never give Cipron Drop to induce sleep in children. Consult your doctor if you have any queries regarding the use of this medicine or if your child is experiencing sleeplessness as it could be due to some other underlying disease.
