Cisplat 50mg Infusion

Cisplat 50mg Infusion is given as an injection into veins by a qualified medical professional. Your doctor will decide what dose is necessary and how often you need to take it. This will depend on what you are being treated for and may change from time to time. You should take it exactly as your doctor has advised. Taking it in the wrong way or taking too much can cause very serious side effects. It may take several weeks or months for you to see or feel the benefits but do not stop taking it unless your doctor tells you to.

Injection site reaction (pain, swelling, redness), nausea, and vomiting are some common side effects of this medicine. Hearing problems or ear damage is a serious side effect of this medicine, hence your doctor might get a hearing test both before and during treatment with this medicine. It may reduce the number of blood cells (decrease red blood and white blood cells) in your blood, thereby, increasing the susceptibility to infections. Regular blood tests are required to check your blood cells along with heart, liver, and kidney function.

Before taking this medicine, let your doctor if you have or had kidney disease as the medicine affects the functioning of the kidney.  Many other medicines can affect, or be affected by, this medicine so let your healthcare team know all medications you are using. This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. It may cause infertility in men, hence they should seek medical advice about sperm freezing before beginning treatment.

Cisplat 50mg Infusion is an anti-cancer medication. It works by damaging the genetic material (DNA and RNA) of the cancer cells which stops their growth and multiplication.

Q. Is Cisplat 50mg Infusion an anticancer medicine?

Yes, Cisplat 50mg Infusion is an anticancer medicine that is used for the treatment of ovarian, cervical, and testicular cancer.

Q. How will you know that Cisplat 50mg Infusion is working?

Keep taking this medicine exactly as directed until your doctor tells you to stop. Regular scans will reveal whether your tumor is responding to the treatment. Your doctor will determine when those scans should be scheduled.

Q. Are there any serious side effects of Cisplat 50mg Infusion?

You need to seek medical help immediately if you notice severe allergic reactions like rashes, difficulty breathing, swelling of face, lips, tongue, change in heartbeats, uncontrollable nausea and vomiting, reduced urination, swelling of feet or lower legs, pain in the lower back or side, muscle cramps, paralysis or numbness of the face, arm or leg and unusual bleeding such as bleeding gum, blood in urine or stools.

Q. Does Cisplat 50mg Infusion cause hair loss?

Yes, while taking this medicine, your hair may become brittle and break. You may also experience patchy hair loss or thinning. These conditions tend to resolve once treatment is stopped. Be gentle when brushing and washing hair to manage hair loss.

Q. Are there any precautions for tingling sensation and numbness in my arms and legs?

This medicine causes tingling, numbness, pain, or burning sensation in your arms or legs. Be careful when moving around, as the numbness may make it harder to walk, feel your hands or feet, or increase your risk of falls. Talk to your doctor if you feel these symptoms. You may need to change your dose or schedule.

Q. I have noticed some changes in my skin after taking Cisplat 50mg Infusion? What should I do?

Use a moisturizer to get relief from rashes, dry and itchy skin. Avoid direct sunlight, wear protective clothing, and use sunscreen with (SPF more than 15) whenever you step outdoors. Do not go swimming if you have a rash because the chlorine in the water can make it worse. Avoid hot water bath and wear loose and cotton fabric clothes. Your skin will tend to become better once treatment is stopped.

Q. I am experiencing nausea and vomiting. Is this due to Cisplat 50mg Infusion?

Nausea and vomiting are some of the common side-effects of this medicine. Your doctor might prescribe you medications to prevent you from feeling sick. Your symptoms will be better managed if you take your medication regularly to prevent sickness rather than use it only when sickness occurs. Along with that, eat smaller, more frequent meals to reduce the feeling of nausea. Avoid food that is salty, spicy, fried, or fatty, and drink plenty of water.

Q. Can I drink alcohol while taking Cisplat 50mg Infusion?

Avoid alcohol while on treatment with this medicine. This is because side effects like dizziness and drowsiness might become worse.

Q. What precautions should I take to reduce the chances of getting infected during treatment with Cisplat 50mg Infusion?

Since Cisplat 50mg Infusion lowers the number of white blood cells and platelets in your blood, it puts you at risk of getting an infection or bleeding. In order to prevent, avoid people who have infections. Check with your doctor immediately if you think you may be getting an infection, or if you get a fever, chills, cough; be careful not to cut yourself when you are using sharp objects such as a razor or nail cutters, and use a toothbrush with soft bristles to prevent bleeding from gums.

In Ovarian cancer

Ovarian cancer is a cancer that begins in the female organs that produce eggs (ovaries). This type of cancer is usually detected very late and can be fatal too. It usually spreads to the pelvis and stomach. Cisplat 50mg Infusion kills or stops the growth of cancer cells and also prevents the multiplication of cancer cells. It is an effective medicine but has some side effects that may be bothersome. So, you should discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. You should avoid drinking alcohol while having this treatment and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

In Cervical cancer

Cisplat 50mg Infusion is an anti-cancer medicine that is used to kill cancerous cells in cervical cancer, a cancer that develops in the cervix of a female. The affected female may have symptoms such as abnormal bleeding, foul smelling vaginal discharge, lower back pain, or may even have no symptoms at all. It has a lot of side effects and you must discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor before starting treatment with this medicine. You should avoid drinking alcohol while having this treatment and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

In Testicular cancer

Testicular cancer is the cancer in the male organs called testicles, that make male hormones and sperm. The testicles are located inside a loose bag of skin (scrotum) underneath the penis. Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Pregnancy:CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR

Cisplat 50mg Infusion is unsafe to use during pregnancy as there is definite evidence of risk to the developing baby. However, the doctor may rarely prescribe it in some life-threatening situations if the benefits are more than the potential risks. Please consult your doctor.

Breast feeding:UNSAFE

Cisplat 50mg Infusion is unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Data suggests that the drug may cause toxicity to the baby.

Driving:UNSAFE

Cisplat 50mg Infusion may cause side effects which could affect your ability to drive.Cisplat 50mg Infusion may cause side effects such as feeling sleepy and/or vomiting which could affect your ability to drive.

Kidney:CAUTION

Cisplat 50mg Infusion should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Cisplat 50mg Infusion may be needed. Please consult your doctor.Use of Cisplat 50mg Infusion is not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease.

Liver:SAFE IF PRESCRIBED

Cisplat 50mg Infusion is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Cisplat 50mg Infusion may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.
