Elata Tablet

Elata Tablet is a medicine used to treat uterine fibroids (a non-cancerous growth in the uterus) in premenopausal women who cannot undergo surgical treatment or have not responded to surgical intervention.

Elata Tablet reduces symptoms like vaginal bleeding, prolonged periods and lower back pain. It can be taken with or without food, but take it at the same time to get the most benefit. It should be taken in the dose and duration prescribed by your doctor. It is important to note that this medicine makes birth control less effective, so use proper contraceptive methods to avoid pregnancy.

This medicine’s most common side effects include amenorrhea (absence of menstrual period), headache, dizziness, fatigue, and nausea. If these bother you or appear serious, let your doctor know. There may be ways of reducing or preventing them. Usually, your periods stop within 10 days of taking it, but if you still experience heavy bleeding, consult with your doctor. This medicine might stop your period for some time, but periods generally return within 4 weeks after the end of each treatment course.

Before taking this medicine, let your doctor know if you have had liver problems or severe asthma. Your doctor may perform regular blood tests to monitor your liver function while taking Elata Tablet. Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, as many of these may make this medicine less effective or change how it works. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Elata Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Elata Tablet is a selective progesterone receptor modulator. It works by modifying the action of progesterone (natural female hormone). It is used either before surgery of fibroids or for intermittent (at regular intervals) treatment of fibroids. It helps reduce their size, stops or controls bleeding and increases your red blood cell count.

Q: What if you forget to take Elata Tablet?
A: If you miss a dose of Elata Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Elata Tablet is used for the treatment of uterine fibroids and their associated symptoms, such as painful periods, heavy bleeding and pelvic pain.

It considerably reduces or stops your menstrual bleeding within the first 10 days of treatment. Notify your doctor if you continue to have heavy bleeding despite taking Elata Tablet.

Your periods will usually start again within four weeks of stopping Elata Tablet.

Use a reliable barrier contraceptive method (such as condoms or a diaphragm) to prevent pregnancy while you are taking Elata Tablet as it may make hormonal contraceptives (such as pills) less effective.

Your doctor may get routine blood tests done to assess the functioning of your liver. Inform your doctor if you notice yellowing of skin/eye, dark urine, or stomach pain.

Q. How does Elata Tablet work for fibroids?

Elata Tablet acts by blocking the receptors of progesterone, which decreases the levels of progesterone and therefore it is helpful in decreasing the size of fibroids. Fibroids are non-cancerous development around the uterus. When given at a certain prescribed dose, Elata Tablet inhibits ovulation leading to stopping of periods. As a result, it may benefit women who have heavy bleeding due to fibroids.

Q. Does Elata Tablet stop periods?

No, taking a single tablet of Elata Tablet does not stop periods, but it may delay or prepone your periods. In some cases you may have bleeding in between your periods. Consult your doctor if this happens.

Q. Can ulipristal be used as regular birth control medicine?

No, Elata Tablet cannot be used as a regular contraceptive. It is meant for occasional use as an emergency contraceptive. It is important to know that the safety and effectiveness of Elata Tablet have not been established for repeated use in one menstrual cycle. Hence, its repeated use is not recommended.

Q. How and when should Elata Tablet be taken?

Elata Tablet should be taken orally as soon as possible after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure and not later than 120 hours (5 days). It can be taken at anytime of the day and before, during or after food. It can be taken at anytime during your menstrual cycle.

Q. What if I vomit after taking Elata Tablet?

If you vomit immediately after taking Elata Tablet or within 3 hours of taking it, take another tablet of Elata Tablet. However, if you have vomited after 3 hours of taking the medicine you need not take another tablet.

Q. Do I need to continue with my regular birth control method?

Elata Tablet may make your birth control pills less effective and therefore in addition to birth control pills you should continue using condoms till your next period (menses).

Q. What other important points I need to remember regarding Elata Tablet?

While taking Elata Tablet you should be aware of some important points such as it does not work if you are already pregnant and it is not effective if you have unprotected sex after taking the tablet. It is also important to know that Elata Tablet does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV, syphilis etc.

Elata Tablet is highly unsafe to use during pregnancy. Seek your doctor’s advice as studies on pregnant women and animals have shown significant harmful effects to the developing baby.

Breast feeding:CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR

Elata Tablet is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.

Driving:UNSAFE

Elata Tablet may cause side effects which could affect your ability to drive.
