Imorab 1000IU Injection

Imorab 1000IU Injection is given as an injection by a doctor or nurse. It is indicated in individuals with category III exposures (in-depth injury). RIG neutralizes the rabies virus at the inoculation site before the immune system responds to the vaccine by the production of rabies virus-neutralizing antibodies. Both active (vaccine) and passive immunization (Immunoglobulin) prevent the rabies virus from infiltrating the central nervous system, but become ineffective once the virus has crossed into the central nervous system. Imorab 1000IU Injection is administered only once in a lifetime.

The most common side effects include nausea, acute toxicity, rash, and stomach upset. They do not normally last very long. Sitting or lying down can sometimes help. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects persist or worry you.

Before having the injection, you should tell your doctor if you have ever had an allergic reaction to an immunoglobulin. Some other medicines may react with the equine rabies immunoglobulin so talk to your doctor about other medications you are taking as well. You should consult your doctor first if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Prevention of Rabies

Your doctor or nurse will give you this medicine. Kindly do not self administer.

Imorab 1000IU Injection is an inactivated vaccine (made from a dead virus). It helps develop immunity by forming antibodies, which are proteins that protect against infection caused by viruses present in the vaccine.

If you miss a dose of Imorab 1000IU Injection, please consult your doctor.

It is advisable to keep your pet’s rabies vaccine up to date. Contact your nearest veterinary center for more details.

You might experience nausea after taking the injection, inform your doctor if it worsens.

Always consult a doctor without any delay, if you are scratched or bitten by any animal, either wild or domestic. 

Q. Is Imorab 1000IU Injection better than human rabies immunoglobulin?

Imorab 1000IU Injection is more economical as compared to human rabies immunoglobulin (HRIG) and hence more affordable to patients in developing countries, like India. However, Imorab 1000IU Injection may cause anaphylaxis (a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction), serum sickness and other allergic reactions and thus, physicians are hesitant to use it.

Q. How effective is Imorab 1000IU Injection?

Rabies is a 100% preventable disease. Proper wound management and simultaneous administration of Imorab 1000IU Injection combined with anti-rabies vaccine (ARV) is almost invariably effective in preventing rabies, even after high-risk exposure.

Q. Is Imorab 1000IU Injection necessary?

Imorab 1000IU Injection is not required for patients who have previously received a complete vaccination series of rabies.

Q. How do you administer Imorab 1000IU Injection ?

Imorab 1000IU Injection should be administered into the muscle (the intramuscularly). If a large volume (> 2mL for children or > 5 mL for adults) is required, it is advised to divide the doses and for each dose a different site should be used. The immunoglobulin and the anti-rabies vaccine should be administered at two different sites of the body.

Q. Is Imorab 1000IU Injection painful?

Whether Imorab 1000IU Injection is painful or not depends on your pain tolerance. During your initial treatment, a healthcare professional will put Imorab 1000IU Injection in the area where you were bitten which can be painful. Therefore, you may need a relatively greater amount of Imorab 1000IU Injection may be required to be placed in and around the wound site to ease out your pain and treat infection.

In Prevention of Rabies

Rabies is a serious disease caused by the rabies virus that is transmitted through the saliva of infected animals. Imorab 1000IU Injection is given along with a rabies vaccine to prevent infection caused by the rabies virus to individuals with suspected rabies exposure. It works by neutralizing the virus at the wound site within a few hours before the immune system responds to the vaccine. It is to be administered only by or under the supervision of your doctor. You should not self administer this medicine.

Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Imorab 1000IU Injection is probably safe to use in patients with kidney disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Imorab 1000IU Injection may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.

Liver:SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
