Mac-B6 Syrup is a combination of three medicines. It is used in the treatment and prevention of kidney stones. It works by preventing the formation as well as breaking down the crystals in the kidneys.

Mac-B6 Syrup may be prescribed alone or in combination with other medicines. It should be taken with food. Measure the solution and dilute it in a glass of water before taking it. Take it regularly and do not take more or use it for a longer duration than recommended by your doctor. You should not stop taking the medicine until your doctor tells you it is okay to stop.

Using this medicine may cause a few common side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and stomach pain. Mac-B6 Syrup is a combination of three medicines: Potassium Citrate, Magnesium Citrate and Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) which prevent kidney stones. Potassium Citrate and Magnesium Citrate raise urine pH and prevents the formation, growth and aggregation of crystals in the kidneys, thereby preventing stones. Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) is added as its deficiency is associated with increased synthesis of oxalate, which is one of the constituents of kidney stones.

Q: What if you forget to take Mac-B6 Syrup?
A: If you miss a dose of Mac-B6 Syrup, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Always measure the solution with a cup cap and dilute it with a glass of water before taking it.

You can also include citric acid-rich food in your diet like grapefruit, oranges, lemons, or limes to prevent kidney stones.

Q. Who should not take Mac-B6 Syrup?

Mac-B6 Syrup should not be taken by people who suffer from high potassium levels (hyperkalemia) as it may lead to rise of potassium to even higher levels that can cause a cardiac arrest. Such people include those with chronic renal failure, uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, acute dehydration, those who do strenuous exercise, or suffer from adrenal insufficiency, extensive tissue breakdown, or those taking potassium-sparing agents (such as triamterene, spironolactone or amiloride). People with delayed gastric emptying, esophageal compression, intestinal obstruction or stricture, or those taking anticholinergic medications should also refrain from taking Mac-B6 Syrup. People who have peptic ulcer disease, active urinary tract infection, or renal insufficiency (glomerular filtration rate of less than 0.7 ml/kg/min) should also not take Mac-B6 Syrup. Q. Can I take Mac-B6 Syrup in pregnancy?

It is advised to consult a dietitian, to get a diet that suits your body requirements.

Before starting treatment with Mac-B6 Syrup, tell your doctor if you have any other health problems, like kidney, stomach or heart-related issues. This is because certain medical conditions may affect your treatment and you may even need dose modifications. Let your doctor know about all the other medicines you are taking because they may affect, or be affected by, this medicine. Inform your doctor if you are planning a baby, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Q. What medicines should I avoid while on treatment with Mac-B6 Syrup?

Medicines containing containing potassium or those that raise potassium levels such as potassium-sparing diuretics, Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (ARBs such as irbesartan, valsartan, losartan and candesartan), Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme inhibitors (ACE inhibitors such as captopril, enalapril, lisinopril), Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs such as ibuprofen), certain nutritional supplements, etc., must be stopped before starting treatment with Mac-B6 Syrup. Let your doctor know if you are taking any medicines or supplements before taking Mac-B6 Syrup.

In Treatment and prevention of Kidney stone

Mac-B6 Syrup is used to make the urine less acidic. This helps the kidneys get rid of the uric acid, thereby preventing the formation of kidney stones. Vitamin B6 present in Mac-B6 Syrup further inhibits kidney stone formation. Your doctor may direct you to eat a low-salt (low-sodium) diet, drink lots of fluids and eat citrus fruits like oranges, lemons etc. Also limit the intake of salt, sugar, animal protein, and foods rich in oxalate such as spinach, almonds, peanuts etc.
