Optidex Eye/Ear Drops is a prescription medicine used to treat bacterial infections of the eye or ear. It works by killing and stopping the growth of the bacteria. It also blocks the production of certain chemicals that cause inflammation and itchiness in the eyes/ears.

Optidex Eye/Ear Drops is to be used only in the affected eye or ear. Read the label carefully for instruction before you use the medicine. Hold the dropper close to the eye/ear without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid or ear. Wipe off extra liquid.

Optidex Eye/Ear Drops is a combination of two medicines: Chloramphenicol and Dexamethasone. Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic which stops bacterial growth in the eye/ear by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins required by the bacteria to carry out vital functions. Dexamethasone is a steroid. It blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the eye/ear red, swollen and itchy.
