Rabishield 50 Injection is to be administered as post-exposure prophylaxis after trained healthcare personnel’s approval. If a person is bitten by an animal, wash wounds and scratches immediately with soap and water for about 15 minutes. This medicine is generally administered by a doctor or a nurse at a hospital or clinical set-up and should not be self-administered.
People at high risk of exposure to rabies, such as veterinarians, animal handlers, rabies laboratory workers, and rabies biologics production workers are given pre-exposure prophylaxis. The pre-exposure schedule for rabies vaccination is 3 doses. Ask your doctor about the same.
Common side effects of this medicine include injection site reactions (such as pain, redness, and swelling), headache, muscle pain, and upper respiratory tract infection. If you experience any of these which do no resolve on their own or get worse, let your doctor know.
