MOA
Silcef CV Dry Syrup is a potent antibiotic comprising two active medicines: Cefixime and Clavulanic acid. Cefixime works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is essential for the survival of the bacteria. By doing so, this medicine stops the infection-causing bacteria from growing and prevents the infection from spreading without making the bacteria resistant to further treatment. The second ingredient, clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. It reduces resistance and enhances the activity of cefixime against bacteria.
What If
Q: What if I forget to give Silcef CV Dry Syrup to my child?
A: Unless your child’s doctor has advised a specific regime for your child, you can give the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next dose. Do not give a double dose to catch up and follow the prescribed dosing schedule.
Drug Tips
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection.
Silcef CV Dry Syrup may cause a bitter taste. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help.
Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect.
Never give Silcef CV Dry Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor. You must also never share your child’s medicine with anyone else even if they show similar symptoms.
Do not give Silcef CV Dry Syrup to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses.
Never save medicine for future illnesses. It cannot be said whether the same medicine will work on future infections.
Stop Silcef CV Dry Syrup immediately if your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty. Report to the doctor without any delay.
Faqs
Q. What if I give too much of Silcef CV Dry Syrup by mistake?
If you think you have given too much of Silcef CV Dry Syrup to your child, immediately speak to a doctor. Although an extra dose of Silcef CV Dry Syrup does not usually cause any harm, overdoses do increase the risk of unwanted side effects and may even worsen your child’s condition.
Q. Are there any possible serious side effects of Silcef CV Dry Syrup?
Some serious side effects of this medicine include persistent vomiting, kidney damage, allergy, diarrhea, and severe gastrointestinal infections. Always consult your child’s doctor for help in such a situation.
Q. Can other medicines be given at the same time as Silcef CV Dry Syrup?
Silcef CV Dry Syrup can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Silcef CV Dry Syrup. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
Q. Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Silcef CV Dry Syrup?
Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.
Q. The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
The color of mucus does not represent the kind of infection your child has. So, yellow or green mucus in the nose does not mean that antibiotics are needed. During the common cold, it is normal for the symptoms to last for 7-10 days and for the mucus to change texture and color.
Q. My child is having a sore throat and ear infection. Can I give antibiotics?
No. More than 80% of sore throats and ear infections are caused by a virus, and antibiotics are not given for viral infections. If your child has a sore throat, runny nose, a barky cough, pain, and discharge from the ear, it is most likely because of a virus. Consult your child’s doctor to seek guidance.
